Why Sports

In one word: "endorphins". It is the "feel-good" chemicals for our physical and mental well-being. At the Summer Portal, we not only ensure that ample time is set aside for students to engage in leisure activities on their own, but also offer structured coaching in three different sports activities which share the same set of learning objectives.

Through sports – be it basketball, table-tennis or fencing, students learn a plethora of transferrable skills and generic attributes such as discipline, strategy, performing under pressure, teamwork, communication, grit, rebounding from failure to name but a few.

Think-and-Speak is a 12-hour course designed to enhance students’ critical thinking, communication and persuasive skills. Through working together in teams, analysing problems, and presenting creative solutions, students are encouraged to think outside the box and articulate their viewpoints persuasively and respectfully.

Students will first learn essential public speaking and debating skills. Then, they will tackle real world challenges with their teammates. By practising active listening, participants learn to collaborate with one another effectively. They will also learn to analyse diverse perspectives with respect and empathy. Finally, participants will present their findings with confidence and style.
