The curriculum of the Summer Portal is designed entirely and taught primarily by faculty of St. Paul's Co-educational College and its affiliated Primary School. They are joined by a team of world class faculty members, all of whom have a deep understanding of our education philosophy. Mr. Warren Lee | Portal Director

A distinguished concert pianist, composer, educator and a respected cultural leader, Mr. Warren Lee made his televised début with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of six and his artistry has since brought him and his music to five continents, gracing stages of all sizes and forms, from a town hall in Tasmania to Carnegie Hall in New York. His discography includes 11 acclaimed recordings with over 15 million streams on Spotify alone. An award-winning composer known for his choral works for children, his music has been published by publishers in Hong Kong, North America and Europe. In recognition of his contributions to the musical arts, Mr. Lee received the prestigious Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award in 2012, an Associateship from the Royal Academy of Music in 2015 and the Yale School of Music Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017, among others accolades. A passionate lifelong learner with a growth mindset, Mr. Lee holds master degrees in music, intellectual property law as well as business administration. With an eye to connect people and ideas, he serves as an advisor for a number of music businesses, organisations and charities and is a business case writer for HKUST School of Business. Mr. Lee is an alumnus of St. Paul’s Co-educational College, where he was appointed Music Director in 2008, a role that has since evolved and expanded into the Creative Arts.

Ms. Lucilla Leung | Portal Guardian

Ms. Leung joined the SPCC family in 1982 where she began her teaching career in the SPCC Primary PM section. Through her total devotion to education, coupled with her radiating affection for each and every one of her students over the span of 39 years, she has left a lasting imprint among generations of St. Paulians, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in all walks of life. Above all else, Ms. Leung prizes most on character formation in children and in guiding them to find their moral compass based on Christian faith. Ms. Leung retired in 2021, after having served as the Primary School Headmistress for 10 memorable years, and has been involved in the Summer Portal since its establishment in 2022.

Mr. Jing Wang | Concertmaster, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra

Jing Wang, Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, is one of the most versatile and dynamic violinists of his generation. Since making his solo recital début in Marseilles, France, at the age of six, Wang has won numerous awards in top international competitions. Wang has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras across Europe and North America under the baton of renowned maestros such as Zubin Mehta, Jaap van Zweden, Lorin Maazel, Christoph Eschenbach, Paavo Järvi, to name a few. Wang’s chamber music performances and solo recitals at major venues, including the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and Lincoln Center, have received critical acclaim. His performances are frequently broadcast on CBC Radio-Canada. He plays a fine c. 1760 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, generously loaned to him by The Postscript Collection through the HK Phil String Instruments Circle. Mr. Wang returns to the Portal in 2025 after serving on the faculty in the Summer PMG camp in last summer, and has been a regular Visiting Artist at St. Paul's Co-educational College.

Mr. Philip Dukes | Artistic Director, Marlborough College

Recognised as one of the world’s leading viola players, Philip Dukes has enjoyed a career spanning over 30 years as an accomplished concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. He made his solo recital début in 1991 at the Southbank Centre, London, hailed by The Times as ‘Great Britain’s most outstanding viola player’ and by The Strad as ‘world class’. As a winner of the coveted European Rising Stars Award in 1997, he immediately made his recital débuts in Vienna, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam to critical acclaim and went on to perform as a soloist with all the major UK orchestras. He has appeared as a soloist at the BBC Proms on numerous occasions, including one in which his performance with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis in the Triple Concerto by Sir Michael Tippett was recorded live for the Deutsche Grammophon label. In addition, Philip has also recorded extensively for the Chandos, Naxos, Nimbus, BIS and Hyperion recording labels, as well as regularly recording and broadcasting for BBC Radio 3. He also gave the world première of the Concerto for Violin, Viola and Orchestra by Benjamin Britten. Philip has enjoyed close musical associations with Yehudi Menuhin, György Kurtág, Daniel Hope, Tasmin Little, Julian Lloyd Weber, Michael Tree, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, the Beaux Arts Trio, Debbie Wiseman and Sir Andrew Davis. In more diverse collaborations, Philip has worked with artists such as Eric Clapton, Sir Paul McCartney, Massive Attack, Madonna, Björk, Bryan Ferry, Nigel Kennedy, Robbie Williams, Oasis, and David Gilmour. In demand worldwide as a director/conductor/soloist, he holds guest teaching positions at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Wells Cathedral School, and is also Artistic Director at Marlborough College. Philip was unanimously elected a Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2006, and in 2007 was appointed an Honorary Associate at the Royal Academy of Music. Philip Dukes is also Associate Artistic Director of the Savannah Music Festival in Georgia, USA, and is also a member of the prestigious Wigmore Soloists ensemble. Highlights for the 2024/25 season include performances across the UK, a series of broadcasts for BBC Radio 3, concerts in Germany, France (Versailles Palace) and Switzerland, together with collaborations with Sinfonia Smith Square London, Chamber Music Society, New York and the Wigmore Soloists. Mr. Dukes’ latest solo release of Elgar and Herbert Howells with the National Symphony Orchestra received significant critical acclaim, with Gramophone Magazine remarking that ‘Dukes is the highly eloquent soloist here, playing with a resonant and sonorous tone, and blending quite beautifully with his colleagues’. Dukes’ latest release is as featured soloist on the soundtrack for BBC TV’s acclaimed Wolf Hall series.

Prof. Ray Wang | Head of Strings, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts

Ray Wang has performed throughout the musical centers and festivals in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. His performances have taken him also to Chicago, Cremona, Florence, London, Luxembourg, New York, Saarbrucken, Segovia and Vancouver. He is an active chamber musician, and is a founding member of the Hong Kong Virtuosi, Canzone Trio and New Art String Quartet in Hong Kong; which received support from the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Music Fund and Hong Kong Arts Development Council. He was previously a music faculty member of the Baptist University and Chinese University of Hong Kong; other teaching activities included Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Australia, Fu Jen Catholic University of Taiwan and Wuhan Conservatory, Xinghai Conservatory, Central Conservatory of Music in China. His students have enjoyed a wide range of successful careers in music, and have won top prizes in such cello competitions as the 1994 International Heran Violoncello Competition, the 2001 Hong Kong Competition for Young Asian Musicians, the 2002 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians as well as the National Cello Competition of China in 1997, 2000 and 2004.

FELLOWSHIP STRING QUARTET & PRE-COLLEGE FACULTY, TIANJIN JUILLIARD SCHOOL
Fellowship String Quartet & Pre-College Faculty, Tianjin Juilliard School | The MILA Quartet, a prominent pioneer of Chinese young string quartets, received professional guidance from the world-renowned Shanghai Quartet. In 2022, the MILA Quartet graduated from the Tianjin Juilliard School as the first quartet to be awarded Fellowship String Quartet. Comprising violinists Ke Karl Zhu, Huan Ci, violist Zhangjuan Liu and cellist Xinyang Lyu, the MILA Quartet showcases remarkable talent and synergy. Founded in 2020, the MILA Quartet has achieved remarkable feats in the music field. MILA won the Gold with Honours at the 2020/2021 Singapore International Solo & Ensemble Competition in 2021; and was selected as one of only four outstanding string quartets recruited worldwide to take part in the internationally celebrated Juilliard String Quartet Seminar in New York in 2022. As a group of accomplished performers, the MILA Quartet shone brightly at the 2nd Tianjin Chamber Music Festival and embarked on their first annual China tour in 2021. At the 1st Tianjin Juilliard Festival Connect, they shared the stage with the Shanghai Quartet and premiered Hungarian contemporary composer Ádám Kondor's work "Vita Nova" in collaboration with conductor Chen Lin. Their performance footprints have spread across many prestigious venues such as the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the Tsinghua University, the Tianjin Grand Theatre, the Izumi Hall in Osaka, and the Hawthorn Arts Centre in Melbourne. As music educators, the MILA Quartet offered an elective course titled "The Art of String Quartet" at the ShanghaiTech University in 2023. They also brought this course to Tianjin Binhai Library, presenting it as free lectures for music lovers. Since 2022, MILA has been teaching at the Pre-College Division and Public Education Division of the Tianjin Juilliard School. Currently, they are committed to the Chamber Music Intensive Program in Pre-College, imparting collaborative playing skills to help young artists explore musical collaboration more deeply.

Ng holds a Masters of Arts in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University (MSU), where she graduated in 2019. Under the tutelage of renowned faculty members, including Dr. David Rayl, Dr. Jonathan Reed, and Dr. Sandra Snow, she developed a robust foundation in conducting techniques, analytical skills as well as innovative teaching and rehearsal methods. Studying voice with the Metropolitan opera baritone Mark Rucker enriched her understanding of vocal pedagogy as a singer and as a conductor. During her time at MSU, Ng directed a diverse range of choral ensembles, including the Chamber Choir, Campus Choir, Women’s Glee and RCAHppella. Currently, Ng serves as the Music Panel Head and the Senior Choir Director at St. Paul’s Co-educational College Primary School (SPCCPS). Prior to her studies in the United States, Ng directed choirs at Diocesan Girls’ Junior School for 6 years. In the past decade, Ng has led her choirs in achieving numerous accolades including the highest acclaim - “Most Outstanding Primary School Choir” at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival for two consecutive years. In July 2024, she led the SPCCPS Concert Choir to earn a Gold Medal in the “Young Children’s Choir” category at the 13th World Choir Games at Auckland, New Zealand. Ng obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Western Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she majored in piano performance and minored in German. Her strong interest in language learning enhances her pursuit of choral excellence, providing a unique perspective that informs her teaching and conducting.

Ms. Kylie Ng | SPCCPS Head of Music, SPCCPS Senior Choir Conductor

A native of Hong Kong, Apollo Wong is a conductor and operatic bass-baritone. He has sung major operatic and musical roles including Don Pasquale (Don Pasquale), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Colline (La bohème), Simone (Gianni Schicchi), Geppetto (Pinocchio) and Javert (Les Misérables), among others. As a singer-conductor, Wong has notably both sung the bass solos and conducted Bach’s Mass in B minor, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony no. 8, “Symphony of a Thousand”, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and Fauré’s Requiem. Frequently involved in contemporary music, Apollo also performed in world premiere operas by Chan Hing-yan: Lu Xun (Heart of Coral), Moon (Ghost Love) and Kang You Wei (Datong). He recently world premiered Valtinoni’s musical Alice in Wonderland as Duchess and Caterpillar and created the singer-conductor role of Lion/Master of the score in a brand-new musical WILD. He has performed for Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh. Educated in the US and Germany, Apollo was the winner of Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal competition and the Pasadena Opera Guild Vocal Scholarship. In 2019, Wong won first place at the Hong Kong Choral Conducting Competition and the Asia Pacific Youth Choir Award. Apollo is currently Chorusmaster of HK Phil Chorus, Music Director of The Learners Chorus and The Learners Orchestra. Apollo is an alumnus of St. Paul's Co-educational College and has served as the conductor of the College's Senior Mixed Voice Choir since 2015, which recently won the Champion of the Secondary School Choirs category at the 13th World Choir Games in Auckland, New Zealand.

Ms. Erica Lowe | SPCCPS Head of English Department

Ms. Erica Lowe is a dedicated educator whose passion for English debate and public speaking has been a cornerstone of her professional journey. Erica graduated from St. Paul’s Co-educational College Primary School and St. Paul’s Co-educational College before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Teachers College, Columbia University in the United States. Erica’s mission revolves around empowering English language learners to think critically and communicate confidently. She currently serves as a board member of the Hong Kong Debate & Speech Community, a non-profit organisation committed to delivering high-quality debating and public speaking education to secondary school students across Hong Kong. Erica’s experience spans continents, having spent four years in New York City teaching and managing English programmes for adult immigrants to support their integration. Upon her return to Hong Kong, Erica assumed leadership roles as the English Panel Head at Wah Yan College, Kowloon and St. Joseph’s Primary School before becoming the Head of English Department at St. Paul’s Co-educational College Primary School, her alma mater, in 2023. She is one of the teachers-in-charge of the English Debate Team at SPCCPS and has previously held the same role in the other two schools. In addition to her educational pursuits, Erica is also passionate about choral singing and conducting. She has sung in various choirs in Hong Kong and the United States, such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus, Renaissance Street Singers and C4: The Choral Composer/Conductor Collective. She currently serves as the conductor of the St. Paul’s Co-educational College Alumni Children’s Choir. Erica’s multifaceted talents and unwavering dedication to education and the arts exemplify her commitment to enriching both her students' lives and her community as a whole.

Ms. Joyce Fung | SPCC and SPCCPS Artist-in-Residence

Joyce Fung is a site-specific artist. One in spirit, multiple in form, her works are made from each site’s materials and conditions to realize new possibilities of seeing, thinking, and experiencing in and through this site. These include a Hoopes-Prize-winning thesis at Le Corbusier’s 1963 Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts in Cambridge MA, a People’s-Daily-featured exhibition at Henry Murphy’s 1926 Garden Of Serenity 靜園 in Beijing, and now the creation of art program at St. Paul’s Co-Educational College Primary and Secondary School in Hong Kong. In addition to art, she works in education and business. Joyce is an alumnus of St. Paul's Co-educational College and Primary School where she currently serves as the Artist-in-Residence.
